Having began their quest for complete system virtualization in 2005, the City of Cape Coral, Florida, sometimes referred to as a "Waterfront Wonderland," certainly has their work cut out for them. Not only are they behind some of their neighbors in the embrace of information technology, but they are also working with technology that is constantly changing and evolving.

Thanks to the help of the team with Zerto Virtual Replication, the City of Cape Coral has recently announced the achievement of their data center virtualization initiative. This will ultimately result in a reduction in environmental impact while surpassing current standards regarding enterprise resource planning (ERP) and human resources.

Fidel Deforte, ICT manager with the City of Cape Coral, explained how Zerto Virtual Replication has helped data management within the city limits. Apart from meeting its goal regarding data center virtualization, the City of Cape Coral has also attained 95% virtualization throughout all of their primary business-specific applications. This move was prompted by a series of internal audits, assessments and consultations.

Moreover, Zerto has assisted the City of Cape Coral in achieving their recovery time objective (RTO) as well as their recovery point objective (RPO), thereby strengthening disaster planning and system continuity in the event of an emergency.

Ziv Kedem, chief executive officer with Zerto, echoed Deforte's statement while highlighting the importance of municipal IT efficieny. He was quoted as saying: "Municipal IT departments nationwide are increasingly realizing the critical importance of maintaining and improving operational efficiency by better supporting major business applications and protecting their infrastructure from failed disaster recovery efforts. Any downtime to a city's virtualized infrastructure would likely shut the city down, which is unacceptable.
