Overview of Data Rescue 4

Originally founded in 1985, the team at Prosoft Engineering, Inc. has been working with both Mac and PC systems for over 30 years to date. A software developer that primarily specializes in data recovery, it should come as no surprise that their flagship project is an application known as Data Rescue. While it’s seen many different transformations over the years, the most recent version, Data Rescue 4, focuses strictly on recovering data from Mac devices. In fact, the current version of Data Rescue isn’t that much different than the previous version.

Packaging

The team with Prosoft Engineering really took a minimal approach to packaging their product. Once opened, however, users will find the application pre-installed on a 16 GB USB flash drive. The contents of the package also contain a unique serial number and a pamphlet regarding the infrastructure and hardware at the Prosoft Data Rescue Center.

Recovery Functionality

Data Rescue 4 boasts a number of data recovery options. The three main options include the ability to recovery files from a corrupted hard drive, the ability to recovery data from a hard drive that has been reformatted or erased and the ability to recover single files that have been lost or deleted. Users even have the option of recovering data from a main hard drive or an external, secondary drive.

Furthermore, Prosoft’s Data Recovery 4 is able to recover any file type from all HFS and HFS+ file systems. Recovery of RAW data is even possible using Data Recovery 4. The program can even be paused during the recovery process and resumed at a later point in time, thereby accommodating longer recovery times and larger files which could take several hours or even days to restore.

Although Data Rescue 4 is quite similar to Data Rescue 3 in terms of recovery functionality, there is a brand new feature that hasn’t been seen in previous versions. Known as BootWell, the feature simplifies the process of recovering data from your system’s main hard drive.

With the sheer number of data recovery options available with Data Rescue 4, it’s easy to see why the product has earned a 5-star rating on the Apple Store. Moreover, the software has received more than 150 awards since its original inception in 2002.

Compatibility

Prosoft’s Data Rescue 4 has been proven to work on all Mac hard drives, including those that fail to mount. While the current version of Data Rescue has been built especially for Mac OS 10.7.5 or later, the program does support data recovery from the iMac, Macbook, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, Mac Mini and the Mac Pro with retina displays. Data Rescue 3 is recommended for those who are using older versions of Mac operating systems.
