Hitachi Sunway Announces Recovery-as-a-Service Offerings

As an IT industry frontrunner in the southeastern region of Asia, Hitachi Sunway Information Systems Sdn Bhd has built a solid reputation on introducing new technology and innovation into the region. Their latest endeavor involves the introduction of recovery-as-a-service (RaaS) functionality as well as the opening of a brand new datacenter in the region. The latest announcement, which represents a huge milestone for the joint venture, is expected to solidify their position even further as one of the major forces in southeastern Asia’s IT sector.

Their RaaS offering, which is available on a subscription basis, advertises near-zero downtime by taking advantage of replication services provided by Vision Solutions: a leader in disaster recovery, managed services and data migration. The service aims to fulfill a crucial role in data protection on behalf of local-area enterprises that are unable to leverage large capital investments or financial resources.

Richard Tee, director of sales throughout the Asia-Pacific and Japan with Vision Sales, underlined the need for business continuity and disaster planning in the 21st century. He was quoted as saying: “Now more than ever, 24/7 system stability, continuity and online access are critical.”

Cheah Kok Hoong, group chief executive officer and director with Hitachi Sunway Information Systems, spoke about the role they fill as well the company’s importance in the region by saying: “Businesses can’t afford data loss or server downtime as even a short-term outage can trigger significant data losses, which in turn impact the financial health. Despite this, many organizations in Malaysia still postpone or ignore disaster recovery planning because the solutions appear to be overwhelming or expensive.”

Included in Hitachi Sunway Information Systems’ recent announcement was the unveiling of their new datacenter, their third in the area. While the move will see the opening of a 5,000-square-foot facility, more than half of Pinnacle Sunway’s datacenter capacity is already in use, spoken for or otherwise reserved by clients.

Hoong described the new facility by saying: “The new Pinnacle Sunway is well-equipped to deliver a complete range of datacenter managed services to handle the demands of the Sunway Group, as well as local enterprises that prefer their data to be residing closer to them.”

Even after the addition of their latest datacenter, the company expects to fill their entire capacity by the end of 2016. Their two other locations, both of which are ISO certified, have a combined footprint of 18,500 square feet. One is located in Cyberjaya while the other is in Kuala Lumpur.

Given Hitachi Sunway Information Systems’ current rate of business, however, it’s likely that the company will have to capitalize on more opportunities for expansion in the near future.
